2001 ford focus complaint?

k... so every once in a blue moon i try to convince myself that my car is more station wagon then sub-compact... spurred on by the fold down seats that just allowed me to move a kitchen table and chairs. however, every single time i do this the middle seat belt locks and i can no longer fold the seats back up due do it constricting in the tightest point (ie-- normally you release by feeding it a little then pulling it out. there is no spare to feed it so... issues). is there a trick... a hidden button... a harry potter-esque spell that i can cast that will keep my kids from riding unsecured in the back? i am not brittany spears... i would get ticketed. ty for the help

Hmm, it looks like there is a safety feature that will prevent the belt from being pulled out until the seat is fully latched once it is folded back up. But it sounds like your are in quite a situation since you can't pull it up! You might be able to free the belt with a screwdriver. Basically you need to emulate the latch bar by sticking the screwdriver into the latch on the back of the seat. Hopefully when you move the latch with the screwdriver the seat belt will release (try to get it to "click" closed around the screwdriver). Another tool might be better, just look at the latch bar below the window and use something as close in shape as possible. Once you get it free remember to unlatch the seat again before putting it all the way up otherwise the latch won't engage.

BTW, you should bring this into a Ford dealer to be fixed for FREE. Manufacturers are required to carry lifetime warranties on safety restraints to prevent these types of unsafe situations. If they charge you, I would call Ford and complain.
