From time to time you may burn the food you're trying to cook, which makes it un-eatable. But, as you gain experience you will get better at cooking and burn less food.

Simply use a piece of Bear Meat (or Beef) with a Range, and choose to make it into Sinew rather than an edible piece of meat. And that's it! You can then spin the newly created piece of Sinew on a Spinning Wheel to get a Crossbow String, and then attach it to your crossbow to complete it.
